Samuel Sponem, associate professor, Dept. of Accounting Studies, was just nominated new Chairholder as of January 1st, 2015. Professor Sponem holds a Ph.D. in Management Sciences from Paris-Dauphine University. His teaching and research interests mainly focus on the use, dissemination and impact of management controls. Namely, he studied budget and performance measurement tools used in large organizations, demonstrating a vast spectrum of practices and the unexpected roles some of these mechanisms can play.
Professor Sponem also studied management control and measures of performance in higher education and creative settings. His works have resulted in numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and trade journals, and as book chapters. He is very involved in teaching and knowledge transfer to practitioners. Professor Sponem currently coordinates a mandatory financial management module within HEC Montréal’s MBA Program entitled “Gérer avec les informations financières.” Michel Patry, Director of HEC Montréal, congratulated him and pledged his full cooperation in a statement issued earlier this year to all staff and faculty members.
